Which Pet is Best for Me?
I am 14 years old, and I have about $450 saved up, as well as some things I am trying to sell, so my savings will amount to about $530. I don’t want to spend it on something meaningless like clothes, I’d like to get a pet!
I go to school during the day, so I need something that can be left alone a bit. I want something that is entertaining, and actually wants my attention. I don’t want a pet that has to be taken to the vet too often, regular checkups are alright. I plan on going to school close to where I live right now, and I don’t plan on living in a dorm, so anything that could live in an apartment or something like that is good.
I am up for birds, cats, small animals, reptiles, ect. I live in California, so Ferrets and Gerbils are illegal.

A rat. Before you think – no way – they are small, easy to purchase everything that they need and upkeep. They are very intelligent and trainable. They love attention and cuddles. (Think of a very small dog that does not bark.) They are active in the evening/night so they will sleep while you are at school. I had rats (2 girls) while in high school and they were the perfect pet for me at that stage of my life. We also had a family dog.
Cats are also great pets which can handle being alone during the day.
Birds – can be noisy depending upon the bird. They are also fairly long lived (15 – 30+ years depending upon the bird species.) Even a parakeet can be too noisy for some places – so if this is the route you go make sure you are able to commit long term.
A house rabbit might be a good choice – if your family/living situation is up for it. Rabbits are more work than you might think – but they are a quiet pet that can handle being alone all day too.

Who knows the story of Noah’s Ark?
The ark was said to be approximately ’450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet deep.’
Given that there are currently approximately 4700 unique species of mammal, plus reptiles, birds and amphibians.
If we make it a math problem I can’t see how they would fit.
Remember two of each.
The world could go underwater.

Story never mentions multiple Noah’s in different areas.
The ark had about 0.9 ha (2.2 acres) of floor space, & was divided into three levels. So, it had a total of more than 91,000 square feet of floor space and an overall capacity of 1.2 million cubic feet. That is enough space for 445 standard railroad boxcars, or 10 trains of some 44 cars each. In other words, it had a carrying capacity equal to that of 10 freight trains of about 25 American boxcars each! This was a sizable structure that allowed abundant room for the various animal “kinds” described in Genesis, and from which all the varieties we now know have sprung.
You see, many of the current animals may come from the same parents of their close relatives. (For example, look at the many –& very different– breeds of dogs, that came from the wolf.)
Also, Amphibious reptiles (crocs, snakes, etc), birds (ducks, seagulls, etc), & mammals (seals, whales, porpoises) –as well as fish & other water creatures– could all survive outside the ark.
Some estimate that the hundreds of thousands of species of animals today could be reduced to a comparatively few family ‘kinds’—the horse kind and the cow kind, to mention but two. The breeding boundaries according to “kind” established by Jehovah were not and could not be crossed. With this in mind some investigators have said that, had there been as few as 43 ‘kinds’ of mammals, 74 ‘kinds’ of birds, and 10 ‘kinds’ of reptiles in the ark, they could have produced the variety of species known today. Others have been more liberal in estimating that 72 ‘kinds’ of quadrupeds and less than 200 bird ‘kinds’ were all that were required. So, the great variety of animal life known today could have come from inbreeding within these few ‘kinds’ following the Flood.
The Encyclopedia Americana indicates
that there are upwards of 1,300,000 species of animals. (1977, Vol. 1, pp. 859-873)
However, over 60 percent of these are insects.
Out of 24,000 amphibians, reptiles, birds, & mammals:
10,000 are birds,
9,000 are reptiles & amphibians,
5,000 are mammals, including whales & porpoises.
Other researchers estimate there are only about 290 species of land mammals larger than sheep & about 1,360 smaller than rats. (The Deluge Story in Stone, by B. C. Nelson, 1949, p. 156; The Flood in the Light of the Bible, Geology, and Archaeology, by A. M. Rehwinkel, 1957, p. 69)
So, the ark could easily have accommodated a pair of all these animals, even if estimates are based on these expanded figures.
